Don’t scare me like that!

I was in Mexico City for a week, visiting family and celebrating that my oldest niece finished high school. Mark stayed at home with Frida. He had a week off, so it was perfect. Frida couldn’t be in better hands.

On Sunday, one day before my return, Frida woke up throwing up twice and feeling sick.  My heart sank when I read Mark’s whatsapp message telling me about the vomit and that she didn’t want to leave the bed.  All of sudden I felt how the cancer was coming back to finally accomplish his evil mission.  And I was more than 4000 kilometers away from home. I had to make use of all my serenity to remain calm and positive. Mark took her to the vet and everything seemed to be fine, and they concluded that she might have eaten something during her night walk, or at home. They were sent back with an antacid to be given every 12 hours. By the afternoon she was feeling better and I was able to enjoy my last hours in Mexico, before heading back home the following day.

The fact is that dogs vomit sometimes.  They are a four-legged vacuum cleaners, with quite an efficient filter. Obviously the filter sometimes cannot handle it, and yes…. dogs throw up.  But this little things trigger our deepest fears. The paranoia is here. For us our dog throwing up is not anymore about a piece of carpet or plastic.  We cannot help feeling afraid that the enemy is back.  I said it once: This is a roller coaster of emotions!!

Frida is fine now. She’s happy and energetic. Along this journey, through the magic of the web,  we have “met” incredible four-legged warriors that have given me so much hope.  I want to think about them, about those ones who are fighting just like Frida, little survivors, seizing the day. Furry warriors, barking cancer away and wagging their tails. Grateful souls with sparkling eyes, that place their heads on your lap, sharing an internal peace that makes you feel that we all are in a safe place. Today I want to think about hope, about love, about Faith, resiliency and health. I want to think about the happy moments that we share everyday. Because that is what nurtures this journey.

And please, Frida, don’t scare me like that!
